The 1935 Italian invasion of Ethiopia (Second Italo-Ethiopian War) was a brutal war of aggression launched by Benito Mussolini's Italy on October 3, 1935, aimed at colonial expansion and establishing a new Roman Empire. Italy used modern weapons, including mustard gas, to conquer Ethiopia, which was declared part of Italian East Africa in May 1936.
